The Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale, 16-item version (DERS-16), was developed by Bjureberg and colleagues in 2016 as a short form of the scale by Gratz and Roemer. It measures how hard it is to handle emotions when you are upset: understanding feelings, accepting them, keeping control, getting things done and finding ways to feel better. Each answer scores 1 to 5, no statement is reversed, and the total runs from 16 to 80. A higher score means more difficulty.
This is not a diagnosis
The score describes a pattern, not a disorder. The authors give no cut-offs, so we show only the number. How you handle feelings is a skill, and it can change.
