What it measures

The World Health Organization-Five Well-Being Index (WHO-5) was developed by Per Bech in the 1990s for the WHO Regional Office for Europe and is published by the World Health Organization. Five statements about the last two weeks cover mood, calm, energy, rest on waking and interest in daily life. Each answer scores 0 to 5, the raw score runs from 0 to 25, and multiplying it by 4 gives the 0 to 100 percentage used in the WHO guide.

This is not a diagnosis

The index shows how you have felt over the last two weeks. A low score is a reason to look closer, and a doctor or therapist can tell what lies behind it in a conversation.
