Official rates and salaries

Official data

Rates and salaries by country

These are not the private practice prices from the map. A rate is the amount an insurer pays or a reference fee schedule sets. A salary is a staff psychologist’s income before taxes. These are different measures, so we do not combine them into one figure or convert them into private practice prices.

FAQ

Therapist prices in brief

Whose prices are these?

Prices come from the profiles of Russian-speaking therapists in 45 countries, mostly in Russia: this is not a survey of each country’s whole market. For some countries, official rates and salaries are listed below. The “How it’s calculated” page explains the method.

How much does a therapist charge per session?

In this data, typically $37, or about ₽3,000: half of therapists charge less, half charge more. The middle half charge between $25 and $50. Prices differ by country and city, as the map shows.

How much does a therapist make per month?

At $37 per session, 10 sessions a week bring in about $1,600 a month, 15 sessions about $2,410 and 20 sessions about $3,210. This is before taxes, rent and supervision; a month counts as 4.3 weeks. You can calculate your own income above: enter your price and the number of sessions per week.

How much should a new therapist charge?

In profiles where therapists stated their experience themselves, those starting out (under 3 years) charge about $31 per session, and experienced therapists (over 10 years) about $43. Use this as a guide: compare yourself above with colleagues in your city and approach.

Does the price depend on experience?

Yes, if you look only at profiles where experience is stated directly: therapists with over 10 years of experience charge about $43, those starting out about $31. In the other profiles, experience was estimated from the year of first psychology training, and with that estimate the price barely changes.

Is online therapy cheaper than in person?

Hardly: the typical price is $37 both for those who work only online and for those who work only in person. In-person practice is more often pricier: a quarter of in-person therapists charge $62 or more.

How much does a session with a Russian-speaking therapist in Russia cost?

In Russia, the typical price is $37 per session, or ₽3,000, and therapists usually charge between $25 and $50. This is a guide, not an exact figure.

Should I list my price on my website?

Yes: a price next to the booking button answers a client’s main question before the first message. A Sessio personal website has a “Formats and fees” block, and you can build the site for free in 3 minutes.
