ACT questions

How do I choose an ACT training?

ACBS states there is no ACT certification process and no such thing as an officially certified ACT therapist; it keeps a list of peer-reviewed trainers, which is not a certification. Check who teaches, how much practice and supervision is included, and what you receive at the end.

How is ACT different from CBT?

ACT grew out of the behavioral tradition (the third wave of CBT) but sets a different aim: psychological flexibility, meaning contact with the present and changing or keeping behavior in line with chosen values. The client learns to relate differently to difficult thoughts and sensations.

Which scales are used with ACT?

In our catalogue the ACT filter shows PSWQ (worry), SCS-SF (self-compassion) and CBI (burnout). These are general scales: they can be sent to a client as a link and repeated to see change.

Do I need a licence for an ACT training?

Entry rules are set by the provider and depend on the country. Some trainings are open to mental health professionals in general, others state no entry requirements. Read the conditions on the programme page.
