Cannabis use test (CUDIT-R)

Shows how your cannabis use over the past six months looks on a short screening scale: how often and for how many hours you use, whether it gets in the way of your duties and memory, and whether you have thought about cutting down. It is a screening, not a diagnosis of addiction.

What it measures

The CUDIT-R (Cannabis Use Disorders Identification Test - Revised) was published in 2010 by Simon Adamson of the University of Otago, New Zealand, and colleagues, as a shorter version of the original CUDIT. Its 8 questions cover consumption, problems linked to use, signs of dependence and psychological effects, all over the past six months. Questions 1 to 7 give 0 to 4 points, question 8 gives 0, 2 or 4, so the total runs from 0 to 32. The authors treat 8 or more as hazardous use and 12 or more as a possible cannabis use disorder.

This is not a diagnosis

The score describes how you have used cannabis over the past six months, not a disorder. Only a doctor or an addiction specialist can assess a cannabis use disorder, and only after a conversation. A high score is a reason to look closer, not a verdict.

What happens to your answers

Your score is calculated right in your browser. Your answers reach our server only if you ask for your result by email: we write the email and do not keep them.

Does a high score mean I am addicted?

No. The score adds up your answers about the past six months and is not a diagnosis. In the English version the authors treat 12 or more as a possible cannabis use disorder, which is a reason for a proper assessment by a specialist, not a conclusion.

What if I have not used cannabis in the last six months?

Then the test does not apply to you. The authors' form first asks whether you used any cannabis over the past six months and goes on only if the answer is yes.

Is there a similar test for alcohol?

Yes. The AUDIT is a short screening scale about alcohol use over the past year. Take it here: Alcohol use test
