Two questions show whether low mood or loss of interest has been bothering you over the last two weeks. It is a quick screen, not a diagnosis: a high score is a reason to take the full PHQ-9 and talk to a professional.

Other versions of this test: PHQ-9 (9 questions) · PHQ-4 (4 questions)
The PHQ-2 is the first two questions of the PHQ-9: feeling down and little interest or pleasure in doing things. Each answer scores 0 to 3, for a total of 0 to 6. A total of 3 or more is the usual cutoff for a positive screen (Kroenke, Spitzer and Williams, 2003).
This is not a diagnosis
A two-question screen only shows whether it is worth looking closer. It cannot tell depression from a bad stretch. A doctor or therapist makes a diagnosis after a conversation.

PHQ-2 or PHQ-9: which one should I take?
The PHQ-2 takes under a minute and only decides whether to look further. With 3 points or more, or if you want a fuller picture, take the nine-question version: Depression test
